In order to comply with the regulation and track all movements of contaminated soil that is excavated and moved away from the original site, you must create an account in the Traces Québec system.

Who should be involved in Traces Québec?

Traces Québec is intended for all stakeholders involved in the traceability of excavated contaminated soil, such as owners of contaminated soil, transporters and receiving sites. For cases covered by the Règlement concernant la traçabilité des sols contaminés excavés (in French only), fees per metric ton are applicable under the Regulation respecting the fees payable with respect to the traceability of excavated contaminated soils. These fees are charged to the owner of the contaminated soil, the project manager or the person responsible for any accidental waste, as well as to certain receiving sites.

Traces Québec – Web Portal & Mobile App

Traces Québec, available in web and mobile versions, is a high-performance, state-of-the-art computer system designed to manage traceability data related to excavated contaminated soil. Featuring a user-friendly and secure interface, this system was developed by Attestra on behalf of the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP) and is available free of charge online at all times.

Registering in the system, which must be done through the web portal, allows users to register and create an account for their organization (company, municipality, ministry or agency). Thereafter, by using the Traces Québec web or mobile versions, it becomes possible for users, depending on the permissions granted to the organization, to carry out some of the following actions:

  • Create a project where contaminated soil is being excavated and enter the associated information;
  • Add stakeholders or observers who can participate in updating the information inherent to the project, or just follow the progress of the work;
  • Add receiving sites for companies that have them;
  • Certify the project once the excavation of contaminated soil is completed.

To learn more about how Traces Québec works, please consult the User Guide and Tutorial sections.
